How I Got Ready: Shoua’s Story
Attending a small college has helped Shoua Vang ’20 build the confidence to pursue her dream job.
“I really loved how Alverno helps us increase our skills in public speaking and working in groups. All the courses I’ve taken and being able to work personally with my professors and classmates have helped me become comfortable with asking questions,” she says. “I’m able to do things I wouldn’t have been able to at a large school.”
Vang started her college education as a nursing major but discovered that by switching majors to kinesiology, she could pair her experience as an athlete with her passion for helping people live healthier lives.
In fact, Vang was hired before graduation as a cardiac diagnostic tech at Froedtert Hospital. In this role, she’ll help physicians diagnose heart conditions, monitoring patients while they exercise and administering EKGs.
Her job offers her the opportunity to build professional experience in exercise physiology and cardiology, and she knows that whatever her next step is, she’ll be ready.
“With my kinesiology degree, I’ll be able to use my science-based knowledge to carry me anywhere I would like to go,” she says.
